Saddam vs. Pinochet
Two evil dictators. One ruled over Iraq from 1979 until 2003. The other ruled over Chile between 1973 and 1990. One is responsible for the slaughter of, reportedly, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi-Kurds in the late 1980s. The other was responsible for the murder of 3,000, the torture of 30,000 and the disappearance of 4,000 Chileans - lest we mention several thousand opponents to his regime fleeing the country. Both had their supporters and their opponents during the time in which they ruled. Hussein was captured by Coalition forces, incarcerated and brought to Iraqi justice which sentenced him to death on November 2006. Pinochet lived free and went unpunished for the murders perpetrated under his dictatordhip - he was arrested on 1998 but only to be released on medical grounds. He died peacefully last Sunday, unlike the citizens he tortured and murdered.
Altogether, two evil dictators with too much blood in their hands but with far different fates. It must have something to do with the moustache...

There is a website where you can pit evil dictators against each other in a playoffs type scenario. I was surprised at who won.

I stopped where it reads that Pinochet was remarkably honest. Also you can't challenge History by dropping Hitler in the first round.
Yes, Maggie was a huge fan of Pinochet. But she wasn't a dictator really.
It is amazing how British pop music has declined since she left the job. The Smiths, Billy Bragg, Roger Waters... She inspired them all.
The dictators contest is amusing. Maybe Hitler is in fact a bit over-rated. He sure had a big impact in our western world but we (western people) tend to under estimate what goes on in Africa and Asia. It doesn't really matter, does it? So it looks like there have been some very bad dictators in those parts of the world, maybe worse then Hitler, but they never affected us as Hitler did.
